Tropical vs. True Sidereal Human Design: What If Both Charts Serve You?
Tropical vs. True Sidereal Human Design: What If Both Charts Serve You?
For years, the Human Design community has debated: Tropical or Sidereal? Which system is "correct"? Which one should you follow?
But what if that's the wrong question entirely?
What if working with multiple charts creates more progress and alignment than trying to force yourself into just one?
My Journey with Both Systems
My personal Human Design journey started in 2020 with Tropical. I soon heard about Sidereal but wasn't even slightly interested. It wasn't until late 2023 that I got a strong pull to look at True Sidereal Astrology and its impact on Human Design.
As I had learned the true uniqueness of Human Design Charts beyond the 5 Types, it was an easy shift for me - however not for the "people pleaser" in me. For quite some time I offered 1-on-1 sessions for everything - Tropical, True Sidereal, or both. And that got a little bit draining as I felt strongly pulled in the True Sidereal direction.
Eventually, I decided to only offer True Sidereal 1-on-1 sessions. That's where my energy was guiding me and also what my audience wanted from me the most.
Now, am I totally against Tropical now? Absolutely not. It was my very own foundation, how it all started, and I will be forever grateful for it.
A Client's Breakthrough: When One Chart Unlocks Another
Recently, I worked with a client whose experience perfectly illustrates the power of working with both systems.
When she first came to me, she had been living as a Projector according to her Tropical chart. She felt limited by what she'd learned about waiting for invitations. It felt restrictive, like something was holding her back from fully expressing herself.
During her True Sidereal Human Design reading with me, we discovered she's actually a Manifesting Generator. The relief was immediate. It felt so much more expansive and true to her. She began embracing more of the activities that truly light her up, allowing herself to initiate and respond rather than waiting.
Here's where it gets interesting: About a year after working primarily with her True Sidereal chart, she told me something remarkable happened. She received a big "Projector" invitation - the kind she had been waiting for when she identified as a Projector.
But it only came after she let go of the need to receive an invitation.
Working with her True Sidereal chart made her feel more connected to her Tropical chart again. The difference? Now it feels freeing and expansive, while before she felt weighed down and limited.
How I See the Two Systems
Through working with clients 1-on-1 and supporting practitioners in the Intuitive Human Design Teacher Training & Certification, I've mastered working with any chart - and also multiple charts simultaneously.
Here's the framework I use:
Your Tropical Chart is similar to South Node energy - it's quite familiar and feels comfortable. It represents patterns you know well, perhaps even past-life energies or what you've already mastered.
Your True Sidereal Chart is similar to your North Node energy - it may feel new and get you more out of your comfort zone, something to grow into. It shows you where you're evolving.
Both serve a unique purpose.
Working with either can bring immense benefits. You simply choose what YOU feel drawn to. There is no right or wrong, ever.
What I See in My Certification Program
In the current cohort of the Intuitive Human Design Teacher Training & Certification, I see this principle in action:
Some practitioners only work with Tropical
Others only with True Sidereal
And others work with both
We embrace the "Science of Differentiation" by peacefully allowing ourselves to have different views and preferences. I mean, how else could it be?
While I have personally shifted more towards True Sidereal over the years, I love to give people the freedom to choose what they want to work with - whether that's Tropical or True Sidereal.
The Real Question
Instead of asking "Which system is right?" perhaps we should be asking:
"What if both charts are showing me different dimensions of my design?"
"What if one chart shows me where I've been, and the other shows me where I'm going?"
"What if letting go of the need to choose creates more freedom than picking sides?"
My client's story demonstrates this beautifully. By allowing herself to explore her True Sidereal chart, she didn't abandon her Tropical design - she freed it. She released the pressure and limitation she had placed on herself, and in doing so, the very thing her Tropical chart pointed to (the invitation) finally arrived.
Your Turn
I'm curious: Do you feel mainly drawn to Tropical, True Sidereal, or both?
Understanding how my audience relates to these systems helps me serve you better. If you have a moment, I'd love to know your perspective.
Remember: There is no wrong choice. Your design is yours to explore in whatever way feels most authentic and expansive to you.
