This post is about that journey — where True Sidereal Human Design chart calculation began, what the challenges have been along the way, and where we stand today. True Sidereal vs Tropical Human Design: Why It Matters
Most Human Design charts — including the ones generated by the most popular free tools online — are calculated using Tropical Astrology. This is the system that Ra Uru Hu used when he developed Human Design, and it has been the default ever since. And it's the access point for most (it was for me too).
True Sidereal Astrology, by contrast, is based on the actual observable positions of the planets — what is literally visible in the sky. The difference between Tropical and True Sidereal is almost a full sign, which is significant (and will increase over time, about 1 degree every 72 years). In Human Design terms, that gap can shift your type, your profile, and which of your energy centers are defined or undefined.
For many people — myself included — the True Sidereal chart lands differently. It resonates more deeply, reflects their lived experience more accurately, and feels like a more honest mirror of who they actually are. That recognition is what drew so many of us to this work, and what has made building reliable True Sidereal tools so important.
Now this is not to say that one is universally right or wrong, this is simply where our own Human Design Experience has led us to, following what feels aligned. So this is for those who feel that strong pull towards True Sidereal Human Design.
Where It Started: Cosmic Human Design
Cosmic Human Design truly started this movement. I believe in 2020, they did something that hadn't been done before: created the very first calculator to apply True Sidereal astrology to Human Design. That was a real breakthrough — and a genuinely courageous one. They planted the flag, and the rest of us followed.
As the tools evolved and more people began working with these charts, some of us started noticing that results didn't always align consistently across different platforms — particularly when comparing outputs with Genetic Matrix using manual SVP values. It was less about any one tool being wrong and more about the fact that we were all working in pioneering territory, without a single agreed-upon standard yet. That desire for consistency — for calculators that would produce the same reliable results — is what sent me on a quest to make that a reality.
The Work in Between
For a period, those of us working in the True Sidereal Human Design space were doing our best with manual SVP values in Genetic Matrix — calculating as carefully as we could, comparing results across tools, and trying to create consistency where the technology wasn't yet able to fully deliver it. It required patience and a high tolerance for ambiguity.
It also required something more than patience from the people who stayed with it: a real willingness to work with evolving information, to hold open questions lightly, and to keep trusting a direction even when the tools were still catching up. Bringing something genuinely new into a space as established — and at times as resistant — as the Human Design community is not easy. I want to acknowledge everyone who did that work during those years. You know who you are.
The Breakthrough: Athen Chimenti and the Official Midpoint Calculations
In summer 2025, something significant happened. Athen Chimenti, founder of True Sidereal Astrology and creator of Mastering the Zodiac, published the official data and calculations for the True Sidereal Midpoint method. For the first time, there was a clear, published, verifiable framework for exactly how the astrology should be calculated.
This was the missing piece.
With Athen's official calculations in hand, it became possible to build and calibrate a Human Design chart calculator that produces consistent, reliable results — results that align with Genetic Matrix (once settings are updated) and can be trusted as a stable foundation for readings, self-study, and practice. That's what we now have. And I'm deeply grateful for Athen's work in making it publicly available.
It's also worth noting: this is a living field. There may be further refinements and updates in the future as our collective understanding continues to develop. That's not a weakness — that's how genuine inquiry works. And the only constant is change, I believe.
If you've previously pulled your chart on Cosmic Human Design and notice slightly different results on my calculator, that's why. Since the Midpoint Method was released, there has been approximately a half-degree adjustment from the initial calculations — and in Human Design, that seemingly small shift can change your type, your profile, and which centers are defined or open, especially when a gate is sitting right on a cusp. Like I always tell people, you decide which chart you want to work with. (And maybe my the time you are reading this it has been updated already and the charts match).
How to Pull Your True Sidereal Human Design Chart
Here are my recommended ways to access your True Sidereal Human Design chart, depending on what tools you have available.
Option 1 — My website (free): I offer a free True Sidereal Human Design chart calculator that was build in collaboration with BodyGraph, using the exact calculations published by Athen Chimenti. This is the most accessible option and the one I recommend for most people — particularly if you're new to True Sidereal Human Design and want a chart you can trust without needing a paid subscription anywhere.
Option 2 — Genetic Matrix Pro subscription: If you already have access to Genetic Matrix, you can generate your True Sidereal chart directly within the platform. While there are many Sidereal versions in the dropdown menu, you need to update the settings first. Simply go to "Settings" and under "Astro HD Sidereal" enter the following:
Ayanamsa: User Defined SVP
Fixed Sidereal Vernal Point: 31.2836
Yearly Incremental SVP: 0.00 (this way the system will automatically apply the yearly change in svp)
Reference Year: 2000
Then select the True Sidereal-M (Midpoint) when pulling charts.

Both options are now built on the same underlying calculations, which means your results should be consistent across both. That consistency is exactly what this whole journey has been working toward.
Why Consistency Matters So Much
Human Design is already a rich and complex system to navigate. The last thing someone needs when they're trying to understand their chart for the first time is to get two different results from two different calculators — and then spend their energy trying to figure out which one is accurate, rather than actually sitting with what the chart is reflecting back to them.

We're in a genuinely exciting moment for True Sidereal Human Design. The foundations are more solid than they've ever been. The calculations are published and verifiable. The tools exist and are accessible. And a growing number of people are discovering that their True Sidereal chart resonates in a way their Tropical-based chart simply never did - or they feel they have outgrown it. How great is it to have options!

It takes real flexibility, curiosity, and open-mindedness to work with something that is still being refined. That kind of perseverance is how anything genuinely new comes into the world.
